Former Duchamp chef Allen Sternweiler is behind this old-fashioned butcher shop and DIY burger spot in Lincoln Park. Offering locally sourced, often organic ingredients, the eatery lets diners create their own char-broiled burger by selecting their bun (brioche, whole wheat, pretzel or croissant), patty (grass-fed beef, pork, free-range turkey, vegan patties and other options), spice mix or glaze and toppings. Prices range from $7.50-9; if the included cheese, lettuce, tomato, wasabi mayo and other toppings don't do it for you, extras like avocado, foie gras, fried egg or black truffle aioli can be included for an additional charge. But burgers aren't the only thing on the menu: The restaurant also offers several salads, seasonal soups, fun flavors of freshly made frozen custard and, for breakfast (starting on Oct. 31), a taste of New Orleans via beignets and Cafe du Monde coffee.
