Steppenwolf Theatre Company originated its in-your-face acting style in a small basement on the North Shore. While the theater company now has a large main-stage auditorium and a smaller studio space, it recalls its early beginnings with this garage theater, a 100-seat, rectangular space underneath the Steppenwolf garage. Built as a rehearsal space, the wooden-raftered, concrete black-box theater is now used as raw space for raw theater, in such no-frills shows as "Wolf Lullaby'' and "Tavern Story.''
