Even if you're pushing 40 and they don't know you at Margie's, they'll card you. Nothing personal. It's just that the staff at the North Center joint, owned by Margaret Heyne, likes to know who's coming around. During the day it's retirees who play pool at the two tables. On weekends at that early (or late) hour, Margie's gets the previous night's stragglers. The $1-or-so tap beers draw a host of regulars from the neighborhood. Friends are easily, and most interestingly, made. One old-timer advised, "Stick around and you could write a book here." The place is dark but clean, with one of the oldest Old Style neon signs in the city.
