Traveling through O'Hare International Airport can overwhelm families with small kids. Delays, crowds and noise at the world's busiest airport make parents weary and kids hyper. With these families in mind, the Chicago Department of Aviation and the Chicago Children's Museum designed Kids on the Fly. Located on the departure level of Terminal 2, this whimsical interactive exhibit entertains, educates and exhausts kids. While parents rest on park benches painted by Gallery 37 artists, children can work the exhibit independently. The aviation-themed stations include an SUV-sized helicopter powered by foot and hand pedals, an air traffic control tower, a tunnel of wooden cargo crates, a small check-in counter with working luggage scale and a two-story purple cargo airplane, complete with movable foam rubber cargo. There are also hundreds of Duplo blocks for budding architects and a scale model of the Sears Tower.
