Since it was first opened in 1968 by Hugh Hefner as a Playboy club, Grand Geneva Resort and Spa has experienced several transformations. It's now owned by the Marcus Corp., which purchased the property in 1994, gutted the rooms and rebuilt the grounds, spending nearly $60 million in renovations. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wrights "Prairie school" of architecture, the resort and spa encompass 1,300 acres, including the main building, 30 resort villas, Marcus Vacation Club, timeshare development, Timber Ridge Lodge and water park, two PGA championship golf courses, sports center, full-service spa and salon, private lake, stables and mountain biking and hiking trails. The spa offers full-service pampering for men and women: facials, waxing, body treatments, hand and foot care and massages. During the winter, Grand Geneva is a ski area with 15 runs, cross country skiing and snow shoe trails, and a ski and snowboarding school. It has a family-friendly atmosphere with drop-off childcare, Kids are Grand. In addition to being easily accessible from OHare and Mitchell Field, the resort boasts its own airport -- Grand Geneva Resort Airport.
