The original Candlelite opened in the 1930s, catering to the primarily Irish community near Howard and Western. When the former owners decided to sell in 2003, some of the regular customers stepped up to the plate to save their favorite watering hole. After a serious remodeling job, which included expanding into the adjacent storefront and ripping out layers of plaster and paint to reveal exposed brick, the new Candlelite Chicago was born in May of 2005. The original pink neon sign outside pays tribute to the old tavern, but a fresh, modern interior features a custom-made bar, halogen lighting and flat-screen TVs throughout
