As the four-foot fiberglass-and-neon cone behind the cash register would suggest, frozen custard is the main event at Andy's first downtown location in the Block 37 pedway. Andy's doesn't offer burgers or fried fare; its focus is on all-natural, creamy chocolate and vanilla custard, made fresh every 45 minutes. The custard is the basis for its sundaes and shakes and can also be mixed with more than 20 toppings, including brownies and pie baked on-site. The other Andy's locations are spread across several states; however, although founder Andy Kuntz resides in Springfield, Mo., don't be surprised if you see him scooping your custard cone. He plans to stop by the Chicago store weekly.
