Hosted by Saint Xavier University and the Stephen A. Douglas Association, this symposium commemorating Douglas' birth includes five plenary sessions assessing his historical legacy. The event also features the premiere of the short documentary "Stephen A. Douglas and the Fate of Democracy," which highlights Douglas' core convictions and achievements, but also presents his racism and tolerance for slavery. Historical interpretations of Douglas and Lincoln will be done by reenactors George Buss and Tim Connors, and Emmy-award winning producer and filmmaker Dan Andries from WTTW will give the keynote address. Lastly, teachers in the state of Illinois can earn up to six hours of Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDU). Tickets include lunch; you can attend a Q&A and dinner following the keynote address for an additional $35.
