Yiddish Theatre was a major force in American culture from the early 1900s through the 1930s. David Chack explores this phenomenal force historically, artistically, and in its newer adaptations looking at plays (The Dybbuk, God of Vengeance, A Sheyne Meidel), great luminaries from the theatre (Maurice Schwartz, Boris and Bessie Thomashevsky, Stella Adler, Paul Muni, Molly Picon, Sidney Lumet, Jules Dassin, and many more), and adaptations into American theatre today such as Indecent, playing at Victory Gardens in Fall 2018.
