In October, we present the Chicago premiere of Stefan Weisman and Anna Rabinowitz’sDarkling, a harrowing contemplation on the descendants of the Holocaust. A true artistic collaboration written for singers, actors, and mixed media, this atmospheric, visceral work centers upon a woman who sifts through a box of old photographs and letters found in her late father’s closet. Using the poetry from Anna Rabinowitz’s book of the same title, this work recalls fragments of lives that were lost when their owners perished in the Holocaust, and in the words of the poet herself, asks the viewer to consider stories that are “pleading to be flossed from the teeth of silence.” Approximate run time: 1 hour 30 minutes with no intermission.
