Chicago's sporadic & nomadic Cumbia & Tropical Bass gathering, since 2011. CumbiaSazo's 2014 "Verano de Cumbia" season kicked off at Double Door with a sold out cumbia + "tropical bass" explosion in Wicker Park showcasing an emergent Chicago Latin underground. The next event is May 31 and travels to Pilsen's newly renovated & historic 1200-capacity Thalia Hall where DJs, musicians & visual artists will connect the dots between all that is vintage + electronic, cultural + subversive, left-field, queer & fun + accessible and dance floor friendly. While not shying from some of your more known Latin rhythms & references, expect the unexpected with an eclectic and often pressure-heavy mix of programming that has a distinctly Chicago local/global flavor. More than just a party or joy-filled escape, the event showcases live visuals and curated arts & vending while also fundraising for local community groups. Visual artists & vendors TBA. Part of 5/31 proceeds will benefit Pilsen's ElevArte and Friends of Whittier organizations.
