Chicago’s finest chefs face off in Food Fight for Scleroderma

Watch as three of Chicago’s best chefs compete in this seventh-annual fundraiser at the James Hotel, with the proceeds going to the Scleroderma Foundation of Greater Chicago. This year's competitors: Chris Pandel, executive chef and partner of B. Hospitality Co., The Bristol, Balena, Formento’s, and Armour and Swift; Sarah Grueneberg, executive chef and partner of Monteverde; and Harold Jurado, chef de cuisine at Yusho. The judges include Heather Terhune, executive chef at BDK Restaurant and Bar; Gale Gand, pastry chef, author and partner at Tru and Spritzburger; and Big Star’s chef de cuisine Tom Van Lente. The emcee is Amanda Puck, director of strategic brand development at Mariano’s. Though the event runs from 5 to 8 p.m., a VIP reception is from 4 to 5 p.m., at which attendees can munch on samples from Formento’s and David Burke’s Primehouse, sip on specialty cocktails from John Stanton, the mixologist from Sable Kitchen and Bar, and get to know the judges and competitors. Guests will get to vote for their favorite dish, and the judges will judge on taste, creativity and presentation. The scores then will be combined to pick the winner. “Having lost my father to scleroderma in 1992, I have close ties to the Scleroderma Foundation,” said Cleetus Friedman, chef chair of the event, in a statement. “I'm happy to support Food Fight for Scleroderma as it combines many of my passions in order to raise awareness for this disease."
