A book discussion of the 2015 Spertus One Book, One Community Selection - “A Backpack, a Bear and Eight Crates of Vodka: A Memoir” by Lev Golinkin is held. This memoir was written by a former Jewish refugee who recounts his family’s desperate flight from the Soviet Union in the late 1980s and his personal quest, years later, to retrace that journey so they could thank the strangers who helped them. The discussion is being led by Rachel Kamin, director of the Grey Cultural and Learning Center at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El. This book discussion is perfect for those who either have read the book, plan to or just want to learn more.
