Bartok was known during his life as an ethno-musicologist interested in the Magyar-Gypsy roots of Hungarian music. He remained obscure. Almost immediately after his death, the world woke up to his brilliance. Now Bartok is known as 'The Fourth B,' taking his place in the pantheon of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. His music is different, challenging, and intriguing.
