In a fine Queen Anne house, exhibits chronicle aspects of the old suburb's history. One permanent exhibit focuses on the Underground Railroad with a re-created station interior of the Liberty Line that passed through Wheaton before the Civil War. The Wheaton Family Gallery covers the founding of the town by Jesse and Warren Wheaton in 1838. Every Christmas, a holiday-tradition exhibit concentrates on one of the town's many ethnic groups, and there always is a temporary exhibit (such as ''Pastimes, Pastimes,'' which touched on the many sides of recreation in the area).
