Former Carnivale chef Mark Mendez's West Loop wine and small plate spot, named after his grandmother, offers a mix of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine. Co-owner (and also Mark's wife) Elizabeth Mendez put together a Spanish-centric wine menu with a focus on sherries. Patrons can pair their vino with seafood such as anchovies and sardines and tapas bravas, made with locally sourced ingredients. Mendez also serves Spanish dishes such as a Madrid-influenced tripe dish and a non-seafood variation on paella. Also on hand: A cheese list of both Spanish and Midwest favorites and wine on tap.
