The story of Ukrainians in Chicago goes back to the 1890s, when many migrated to live in this neighborhood and to work on the railroads. Photos and other artifacts reflect Ukrainian customs in dining, entertainment, politics, worship and other aspects of urban life. The museum also features wood carvings, ceramics, textiles and other crafts that have been a part of Ukrainian life for centuries. A significant library and archive is located here and serves scholars in Ukrainian history. And there are Easter eggs with wonderfully intricate designs--an art form that goes back thousands of years.
