University of Wisconsin alumni, get ready: Your campus pizzeria has arrived in Chicago. This mostly delivery and carryout pizza chain specializes in funky pizza toppings such as mac 'n' cheese, barbecue chicken, Philly cheesesteak and the potato topper, which combines all the elements of a bacon-sprinkled potato skin on a pizza. Three crust styles--thin-crust, hand-tossed and tall boy, Toppers' take on deep-dish--are available. Toasted sub sandwiches (called grinders here), wings and quesadillas (with a pizza crust base and a tortilla on top) round out the menu. Toppers is known as a college town pizza chain, and one of the most popular signature items are Topperstix, garlic butter-slathered breadsticks with myriad dipping sauces. Variations top the breadsticks with bacon, pepperoni, taco toppings or even cinnamon sugar or berry sauce for a dessert version. If you want to eat in, there are about a dozen table seats, plus a small area with couches and TVs to lounge while waiting for a carryout order.
