The Renaissance Society is arguably the city's most distinguished gallery for avant-garde art. Founded in 1915 and ensconced in a spacious gallery in Cobb Hall at the university, the ''Ren'' was first in the United States to exhibit artists Fernand Leger and Constantin Brancusi. Recent exhibitions include cutting-edge work from around the world, from Americans Michael Kelley, Gaylen Gerber and Julia Fish to On Kawara and Heimo Zobernig.
