When owner Apinya "Ann" Leevathana was trying to come up with a name for her cozy Edgebrook eatery, she wanted a name that had meaning. The elephant, known for its superior intelligence and long life span, is a symbol of wisdom and dignity in Thailand, and was even portrayed on the country's national flag at one time. Leevanthana has already built up fans in the Thai-starved neighborhood for her authentic southern-style classics (she is a Bangkok native). The menu features green, red and pananag curries, but the mild hot-and-sour masaman curry is Leevanthana's specialty. Other favorites include catfish with curry sauce and a salmon fillet with slivered ginger in addition to favorites like tom yum noodles and pad Thai. For beverages, BYOB or enjoy a fruity tapioca pearl-laced bubble tea.
