For nearly 20 years, the place for breakfast in Chicago Heights has been The Egg & I. In its newly expanded facilities, it continues its traditions of enormous omelets and freshly made pastries. Lunch isn't bad either: Each day, diners get a choice of several homemade soups including chicken tortilla, matzo ball and Italian wedding. If you can't decided between breakfast and lunch, the Madison Sandwich combines the two meals with two slices of toasted wheat bread topped with shaved ham, bacon, scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese. The Egg & I also has a second restaurant in Tinley Park off Harlem Avenue.
