This low-key, soul food-inspired Logan Square spot is the work of Malaika Marion, a Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago (CHIC) graduate with considerable restaurant experience under her belt (before she opened Brown Sack, which got its start at a smaller location over on Armitage Avenue befor relocating to this locale, she was a manager at Lula Cafe). Soup, sandwiches and milkshakes are the focus; favorites include the PB&J, the grilled organic veggie sandwich and a Rueben with sherry grilled onions, plus Southern sides such as black-eyed peas, cornbread and mac and cheese. Expect ample vegetarian and vegan options too. Marion's aunt, Mary Wilkerson, handles the baked goods, turning out treats such as peach cobbler and sweet potato pie.
