The 5105 ClubAustin
The 5105 Club is typical of neighborhood blues lounges on the West Side. It's friendly, unpretentious and run by a man who goes by the moniker "Action" Jackson. It's not a big room, but the blues sets draw a sizable crowd in the summer, when it's not unusual to have the house band welcome five or more "guests" to the stage in one night. Howlin' Wolf tributist Taildragger often has appeared here, as well as a variety of singers and harmonica players, and it has become a home for neo-classical bluesman Rockin' Johnny as well. It's a gritty urban lounge, complete with card-playing regulars, and the blues nights are energetic and participatory.
