This no-frills barbecue spot in West Rogers Park doesn’t purport to be anything fancy, but that doesn't mean Jared and Amanda Leonard, the husband-and-wife ownership team behind the place, aren't striving for depth of flavor. Meats rest for hours in a 14-spice dry rub before they hit the hickory smoker. Choose from classics such as pulled pork, pulled chicken and St. Louis-style spare ribs, then sauce 'em with the smoky signature sauce or special citrus-chipotle. Sides include five-cheese rotini mac and cheese and baked beans with pork sausage. If you still have room, try the "bar-b-cookie," a gooey, ice cream-topped chocolate chip skillet cookie. Rub is a mostly counter-service operation, depending on crowds, but there's plenty of seating at cozy green booths in the comfortable dining room with a rustic accent wall paneled with reclaimed barn wood from upstate Illinois.
