The historic Hotel Baker in downtown St. Charles closed its long-running restaurant The Waterfront and has filled the void with ROX City Grill. The elegant eatery looks out to the street from the hotel's front, and connects with the formerly closed-off Charlemagne Lounge, which serves up cocktails as well as starters, salads and desserts in between meal hours and late at night. The art-deco dining room serves up a contemporary American menu.
Start your meal with oyster shooters, wild mushroom risotto with Asian duck confit or a "lobster martini" of wasabi mashed potatoes, tempura lobster and a tangerine-orange glaze. Entrees span from hoisin-brazed shortribs to yellow fin tuna with baby bok choy to a hearty ribeye steak with a five spice port syrup. Back in the lounge, you'll find plenty of beers on tap, wines by the glass and martinis in flavors such as espresso and sangria.
