The “Rat Pack”-esque memorabilia, dirt-cheap booze and old-school bartenders fuel this River West spot’s reputation as an odd remnant of a bygone era. Notably brighter than your average dive due to the plentiful neon signs and blazing retro jukebox, this no-frills alehouse sits below a men’s boarding hotel mere steps from the Blue Line and busy Milwaukee-Grand-Halsted intersection. If you’re so inclined, take a seat at the lone table in the back of the room, but it may be more fun to have a seat next to the eccentric regulars at the bar. Offering everything from import beers and top-shelf liquor to rail whiskey and PBR cans, Richard’s serves booze fit for any mood or budget, along with hard-boiled eggs for 75 cents each and complimentary chips.
