So I am coming on MetroMix to officially announce that Red Ivy nightclub/bar is RACIST. Me and my friends (of course we're African American) experienced the racism FIRST HAND this past Saturday. We got all dressed up to meet a friend there for her birthday, but were stopped DEAD in our tracks by a burly security guard, who proceeded to ask me "what's up" when I went to hand him my ID. I told him (after he kept asking me "what's up") that I was there to see my friend for her birthday and then asked him if it was a private party or something. Didn't understand why I was getting grilled at the front door of a public BAR. To make a VERY long story short, we never got in and he KEPT cursing and talking to us like we were 5 years old and finding any excuse to not let my friends in. It was blatantly obvious that he was trying to limit the amount of AAs in the place. Didn't take a rocket scientist to figure THAT out. I never experienced this in my life. Needless to say, I got to talk to my "birthday" friend the next day and she admitted that the place WAS RACIST and the security guard (who was African American, by the way!) was her god brother and he was under the instructions of the manager, to not let a lot of black folks in. Wow. And this dude was so dumb that he actually agreed to this. At any rate, I'd never grace their doorstep again (like they care, since they didn't want my kind in there anyway), but you'd better believe I'm spreading the word. This isn't the last of this. It's 2012 and everyone should be used to being around other ethnicities by now. So sad
