Don't be surprised if free samples find their way into your hands at this Greektown counter-service spot fronted by big windows overlooking Van Buren Street. The management is known for doling our freebies to folks waiting for food. Just be careful not to fill up on handouts--the inexpensive lunchtime fare comes in gigantic portions. For about five bucks, you can buy a slice of New York-style pizza and a soda (no surprise, it's the lunch special of choice). For a few more bucks, you can dig into a menu of pastas, salads, cold subs and hot foccacia sandwiches such as the panino de taccitino, stuffed with turkey and provolone and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and house dressing. Specialty baked pies are available too, with a fairly standard lineup of ingredients, such as sausage, mushroom, broccoli, pineapple and black olives. Homemade desserts, including assorted cakes, cheesecake and tiramisu, are sold by the slice.
