Located in a tiny strip mall a stone's throw from Truman College in Uptown, this cash-only, no-frills spot serves authentic, affordable fare from Ghana. Try the peanut butter soup with fufu, a West African staple made from a boiled, pounded root vegetable or other starch (here, it's made with plantains). The bare-bones dining room leaves much to be desired, but the lack of utensils is intentional: This food is traditionally eaten with the fingers or scooped up with fufu. And don't worry about making a mess—the tables are covered in plastic and a roll of paper towels will probably be within easy reach.
