College students, neighborhood workers and others watching their pennies have been flocking to this Lincoln Park diner for more than 60 years. Massive amounts of comfort food like meatloaf are served; dinners include two side dishes. Desserts, especially milkshakes and sundaes, are popular. The décor is retro, with dark wainscoting up one wall, a bright mural with scenes of Chicago filling another and vinyl banquettes lining the others. Other seating is provided by mismatched wooden chairs at Formica tables. Two TVs share air space with a ceiling fan. The overall feeling, like the food itself, is comfortable.
