The "Original" Ferrara Bakery has been serving cannoli, cream puffs, custard cannoli strawberry cake, biscotti and other Italian pastries since 1908. Ferrara offers nearly 80 varieties of pastries and cookies, and specializes in custom-made wedding cakes and mini European pastries for sweet tables. The bakery, which was founded by Salvatore Ferrara, used to be in the middle of Little Italy, but UIC expansion forced owners to relocate just west to their present digs in the Tri-Taylor neighborhood. Third generation owners Nella Ferrara Davy and Bill Davy have expanded the operation – they now have cafe seating and offer Italian specialties like chicken parmesan, lasagna, stuffed green peppers and baked mostaccioli. You can also purchase entrees and soups, like pasta e fagioli and minestrone, by the pound (either fresh-made or frozen). The Ferrara family also owns the Ferrara Pan Candy Company, which makes popular candies like Lemonheads and Atomic Fireballs.
