In the summertime, this basement walk-up is filled with slushy Italian ice treats courtesy of Miko's Italian Ice. But between the months of October and April (weather permitting) resident baker Will Von Hartz turns it into a place to warm up with coffee, sandwiches, cider and other baked treats such as cakes, cookies, cheese snacks and puffs. There are a handful of seats inside and a wooden bench under a tree for balmy days, but for the most part, this is a carryout operation. Offerings include soups such as lentil, split pea and a rotating cream-based flavor, and there will also be sandwiches such as grilled cheese on house-made rosemary and garlic bread. Locally roasted, hand-poured coffees are made with ground-to-order beans, and other toasty drinks include hot cocoa and cider mulled with orange, cinnamon and cloves.
