This opulent but unusually intimate theater space is set to make a significant contribution to the arts scene well beyond the village of Arlington Heights (which has contributed $2.3 million to the total project cost of $22 million). The comfortable, 350-seat theater was designed by architect John Morris, an astute fellow who has made all kinds of creative contributions to the local theater community. Metropolis produces a four-show subscription season of musicals and comedies, as well as hosting national touring musical acts, kids' and family shows and regular engagements with The Second City. Metropolis--which additionally features a ballroom, four classrooms and 13 music studios--is also home to the Metropolis Youth Symphony and the School for the Performing Arts.
