This Gold Coast eatery – from the team behind the The Whitehall Hotel and its restaurant Fornetto Mei -- opened in 2010; however, the large stone Buddha that decorates its dining room is more than 100 years old. Mei's authentic Chinese cuisine is prepared with natural ingredients and no MSG. Each entree is made-to-order so diners -- a mix of hotel guests, tourists and locals -- can ask for adjustments to the eatery's pork meatballs with vermicelli or roasted duck, or request their fried rice be flavored with beef tenderloin or chicken. Mei's also serves daily specials, noodle soups and other small-plate picks. But arrive early to ensure you get the full selection: Menu items sometimes sell out.
