Tequila geeks, you're in luck. This Logan Square spot has an extensive, artisanal tequila focus alongside its modern, upscale Southwestern cuisine. The hearty menu includes corn (the restaurant is named for the blue corn dough called masa), chilis, seafood, beef and duck, helmed by executive chef Alvaro Chavez, along with husband-and-wife team Jason and Valerie Lerner. Start with apps such as a duck tamale with chipotle crema or the fried artichoke hearts in a blue corn tortilla nest with ancho chili aioli. Then move along to mains such as mesquite duck breast with tequila-infused pineapple chutney or coffee-pepper encrusted beef medallions with epazote reduction. For dessert, cap it off with the sinful chipotle triple chocolate cake. Artisanal tequila, mezcal and sotol will be the focus of the cocktail program, but there will also be select wines to pair with the cuisine. The rustic space captures Southwestern flair while maintaining a contemporary edge, with metals and wood tones throughout the space.
