Not only does this Wicker Park spot feature exotic cuisine, it even invokes a bit of a Moroccan bazaar: Before entering the dining room, you pass through a retail shop stocked with hand-painted goatskin rooster lamps, hand-made jewelry and decorative hanging lamps. Other handicrafts and accents are displayed around the restaurant.
The menu includes traditional appetizers like zaalook, grilled eggplant mashed with tomatoes, cilantro, garlic and spices, and soups like harira, a blend of vegetable consommé with tomatoes, onions, chickpeas, vermicelli and fresh herbs and spices. Entrees feature classic tagines (aromatic stews) with lamb, chicken, beef and salmon options, and several grilled kebab choices. House specialties include the lamb shank sautéed with onions, tomatoes and fresh herbs, and the lamb and vegetable couscous.
