Bucking the hotel-lobby-as-living-room trend popularized by the W Hotel chain, the bar at the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower is removed from the activity of the concierge and registration desks. Located on the Wabash Street side of the lobby, it offers a fabulous view of the park across the street and is an excellent vantage point for people-watching. Fashionistas mingle with the suits as energetic music pulsates in the background. Champagne and wine are available by the glass, as are plenty of small-batch bourbons, single-malt scotches and port. La Terrasse (the fancy name the bar uses for its sofa-filled outdoor area) serves a menu of pintxos and sangra, weather permitting.
