The full-service location of this East Village Mexican empire (with two other counter-service locations on the same block) whips up fresh fare for demanding lunch and late-night crowds. The family-owned spot is best known for its made-to-order tacos, which can be filled with a number of specialties, including chorizo, steamed beef, beef tongue, carne asada or chicken, though the carne asada wins the most raves. Hand-painted landscape murals of Mexico adorn the walls of a room filled with bright yellow tables with butcher-block booths. Authentic horchata (a refreshing cold drink made of rice, almonds, cinnamon and sugar) makes for a pleasant close, especially for late-night crowds.
