Chocolatier Katherine Duncan brings cakes, truffles and other baked goods for smaller and big events to Logan Square. All of Duncan's sweets are made without artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. Local Illinois honey and organic sugar are used in the store's caramels, and Duncan also mixes items from the studio's backyard herb garden into her apricot-basil truffles, grapefruit cava and fresh mint truffles. The shop sells 15 types of truffles ($2.50 a piece), including favorites such as the cherry-amaretto truffle. Featuring exposed brick, tables made from reclaimed wood and local artists' work on display, the cafe serves homemade hot chocolate topped with a homemade marshmallow. Customers can infuse their drink with the truffle of their choice. Tea from Chicago-based SenTeamental Moods and French-press coffee from Bucktown's Ipsento grace the menu, and Duncan is also in the process of securing pastries for the shop. For take-home treats and gifts, truffles in three- seven- and 20-piece boxes made from eco-friendly, tree-free paper are sold. Salads and sandwiches are also available on the menu.
