The Jazz Showcase has reopened at Dearborn Station. The space features clearer views than the previous Grand Ave. location--"It's a clear shot, from front to back," says Segal--and a bigger stage that can fit up to 20 pieces.
Segal, 82, has brought live jazz to Chicago for 60 years. The Jazz Showcase has been on hiatus since its home on Grand Avenue closed Jan. 1, 2007. Just as Segal's club has become a classic, so too are many of the musicians that make their way to his stage: Maynard Ferguson, Milt Jackson, Ray Brown and McCoy Tyner.
