CLOSED: Izakaya HapaNear North
Happy hour takes an Asian-inspired turn at this modern River North lounge patterned after a Japanese izakaya, a casual style of bar that serves food alongside after-work drinks. The 250-seat second-floor lounge is located above Sushi Taiyo, and like its downstairs neighbor, it's owned by the family behind Lincoln Park Chinese-sushi hybrid Shine and Lakeview Japanese-sushi eatery Rise. But unlike its sister spots, Izakaya Hapa skips the sushi to make room for cocktails and a made-for-snacking menu featuring Asian eats such as sake-steamed mussels, crispy chicken wings, yakitori, hot pots and Japanese noodle dishes such as yakisoba and udon. The bar pours an international mix of libations, from high-end sake and creative cocktails with an Asian spin to sangria and mojitos.
