The Innertown is a Wicker Park institution, a neighborhood remnant from the days of starving artists and Section 8ers. It still draws a mostly young, low-key, eclectic crowd to its scruffy confines. Recreational options include a free pool table, dart board and retro video games. The jukebox offers mostly rock and lots of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams. Beer is the drink of choice, and there are seven taps at the bar, including Spaten. Friendly bartenders and secondhand smoke are two things found in abundance. Keep an eye out for the owner, who looks eerily like Wayne Newton and who might try to buy you a beer. On Thursday and Sunday nights there's an open mike to showcase brave local musical talent. Otherwise, the bar is open seven days a week, including holidays.
