India House has opened in the former Zinfandel space in River North. This is the first Chicago location for the independent chain, with outposts in Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, Rockford and Fort Lauderdale. The focal point of the elegant main dining room is the glass-enclosed kitchen that provides views of the chefs working the clay tandoor oven. The menu offers nearly 150 choices, with extensive vegetarian options. House specialties include items prepared in the tandoor oven, such as lamb chops, lobster, salmon and jumbo shrimp. There are also mixed grill platters of tandoor favorites for the indecisive. The full-service bar features Indian beers and drink specials along with an international wine list.
