The folks behind the local Leona’s chain and the original Hop Haus, a casual, late-night burger-and-beer spot in River North, are also behind this Rogers Park location. The menu mirrors the first location, and the decor—think lots of wood, multicolored checked tablecloths and pictures of Chicago sports greats covering the walls—doesn’t stray far either. You’ve got more than a dozen burger choices, including a build-your-own option, plus an exotic lineup of mini-burgers made from game meats such as kangaroo, ostrich and wild boar. With fewer than 30 options, the beer list isn’t as impressive as the name might lead you to believe, but the menu includes helpful pairing tips in case you’re not sure what pairs well with, say, a wild boar burger with smoked gouda, bacon and garlic-peppercorn sauce. (Not that it matters when you’re chowing down at 3 a.m.) Hop Haus also opens early on weekends with a lineup of breakfast skillets and a bloody mary bar.
