For a smaller but certainly not less lively sports bar, this modest Lakeview watering hole has been filling up patrons - and Michigan State fans - since 1990 with inexpensive beer and home-cooked food. Every winter owner and namesake Jim Higgins hosts a chili cook-off, which draws much more than the usual Lakeview locals for free body-warming chili. The rest of the menu is a step above your average bar food, with options like grilled halibut, a Cajun stew and the malibu chicken sandwich, a grilled boneless, skinless chicken breast, topped with ham and Swiss cheese. For those just looking to kick back and take advantage of the extensive beer list, salted popcorn is on the house.
