The only gallery in Chicago devoted exclusively to contemporary Cuban art, the idea for the Havana Gallery came about when its directors, Paul Redmond and Andy Huebner, began traveling to Cuba. During their vacation visits to the island, they discovered pieces of art they liked, which they brought back with them to Chicago. After putting together a substantial collection, they decided to open a gallery. While many of the pieces in the Havana Gallery are oil-on-canvas, the gallery displays other media, including acrylics, watercolors and mixed media. Many styles are represented, from surrealistic to abstract to nature-oriented realism. All work is by Cuban artists, on exhibit in the U.S. for the first time. Eduardo Estrada, Lorenzo Linares and Bretana are some of the artists featured.
