Located in the heart of the Lower West Side's Pilsen neighborhood, a dynamic Mexican-American area, Harrison Park offers a beautiful view of downtown Chicago from the southwest. Adjacent to the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, the park is an important place in this 'barrio's' life, especially during the weekends and on important Mexican celebrations. The beautiful fieldhouse is a red brick construction dating from 1924. It is air conditioned and includes a kitchen, swimming pool and two gymnasiums. Outdoors, street vendors walk around the park offering churros (the most popular Mexican pastry), sweet corn, ice cream and fruit. The park has over 100 programs during hte school year, including basketball, hockey and soccer, music, swimming and gymnastics, for ages from tiny tots to seniors. Mexican special events are hosted at Harrison, as well as holiday celebrations. Harrison has the largest senior Hispanic group, and has therapeutic programs for kids and adults.
