Founded by Brazilian Marisa Cordeiro in 1991, this academy is the largest capoeira organization (an Afro-Brazilian martial art incorporating fighting, dance and gymnastic elements with live music) in the Midwest. In addition to daily classes at the main headquarters, and the Ida Noyes Hall Dance Room in Pilsen, they also offer affiliate classes at the Old Town School of Folk Music, the University of Chicago and other venues. Class schedules change each semester at the universities and non-students are welcome to attend. Call for details.

Also offered are samba lessons, Portuguese language classes and capoeira-related music classes.
