Patrons can eat at any of the tables at this casual UIC-area eatery -- or, according to third-generation owner Neil Fontano, pretty much anywhere else that they'd like to: by the store shelves, near the photos of regular customers -- even at the desk in his office. Hearty hand-held fare includes a meatball sub made with meatballs that are hand-rolled one at a time at the store, and the Blockbuster, packed with Italian provolone, Swiss, Genoa salami and ham. The family-oriented shop sells 700-800 sandwiches on an average day -- along with a variety of Italian grocery goods such as cannoli, Italian tuna fish and giardiniera (Italian vegetables in oil), which can also be shipped across the country.
