This Gage Park ice cream and Italian ice spot has been serving up the goods since 1990 (owners Guadalupe and Adalberto Lopez sold pre-made ice cream at another location before they opened Flamingo's). Guadalupe is the mastermind behind the 68 flavors they serve (they have over 100 at their Berwyn Flamingo's location); look for Italian ice choices like mamey and mango, plus more obscure flavors like carrot, horchata and alfalfa-pineapple. We really like the spicy-sweet "diablos," in flavors like tamarind and pineapple. Ice cream runs the range from vanilla and cherry to rice pudding and sweet potato. Guadalupe uses dairy products from nearby Elgin Dairy and adds very little sugar (and no preservatives), so you really taste the ingredients.
